In God I Boast ~ Do You Believe in Coincidence?

I have had an amazing year writing reviews for the This Old Schoolhouse Review Crew. One of the greatest things has been meeting other homeschooling moms who love the Lord. Kym is one of those TOS moms and I am so thankful for her sharing her story with us today. I pray that it will bless you.

Let’s boast in the Lord together!!

boast in God

It’s said that a coincidence is when God chooses to remain anonymous.

My husband and I are Canadians. In 1993 we lived in Calgary, where he worked at a greenhouse, when we received the news – his name had been drawn in the green card ‘lottery’ he’d entered the previous year! We hadn’t won a million dollars, but the chance to find a job in the USA and be able to live and work there. He applied for a lot of jobs, but without much response. One day, his manager called him into the office to take a call. A grower in New Jersey had called for a reference for someone else, and the manager said, “I have a different guy here that I’d rather recommend, and he has been looking for a job in the US. Want to talk to him?” Long story short – he was flown out for an interview, and offered the job. A job he hadn’t applied for! What a coincidence that some other former employee had applied, and the manager had suggested my husband instead!

Now we needed to apply for green cards. Although 30,000 names were drawn, only 10,000 visas were awarded, and one is needed for each family member. Plus, we needed appointment slots at the consulate for the number of visas we’d need, which was three. Everything was booked for the month and we thought we’d need to wait, but were advised to call later and see if there were cancellations. You guessed it, another coincidence! – three spots opened, so we could get our visas processed.

Many people would attribute those things to lucky coincidences, but we know without a doubt that it was God at work. He had my husband’s name drawn out of the thousands; he orchestrated a phone call that led to a job offer where we hadn’t even thought to look; he opened the way for us to have the exact appointments we needed, just in time; and he had ‘reserved’ enough visas for us. Not just a series of coincidences, but God knowing where we needed to be and getting us there. After we’d moved, I came across a part of Paul’s speech in Athens that really struck me:

From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. ~Acts 17:26-27

I will boast in the Lord!

Kym and her family live, work, and homeschool in Maryland; and still see God at work in the coincidences. You can often find her enjoying a cup of coffee and blogging at Homeschool Coffee Break.

What coincidence has happened recently to you?

  1. I experience “God-incidences” nearly every day. People will say, “That was good luck.” I say “No, that was God.” Sandy
