Need a New Book?

I love books. I love to hold books. I love to look at books. I love to read books. I don’t love to smell books, I’ll leave that for Daddy to do.

When my kids were younger, but old enough to start going to the library, I realized that I didn’t know enough about children’s books and authors. It had been a few years since I’d been in the classroom and I felt ignorant of recent authors. I began to ask around and search the internet for book lists. I never really did find anything to suit me, so I am now attempting to pull together a list as we pull books from the library.

Also, every now and then I have a request from someone who is searching for something that is “good” to read. So I have included my personal favorites as well. Considering I have a stack of 9 books beside my bed, I’ll be adding as I finish reading!! Feel free to comment below with your favorites!!

  1. Love the book lists! How, oh how could I have forgotten about Cynthia Rylant? I love Cynthia Rylant’s books. We have a few her books on our shelves. I’m off to search for more. Thanks!

  2. Have you ever tried the Bob Books with your kids? We have found them to be fun and effective, and we now have a busy little reader on our hands!

    • I did check them out from the library. I mainly used Teach Your Child to Read. It was fantastic. RB sat down and read a book to me the other day. I was blown away. YEA for reading kids!!

  3. A great devotional for small children is “The Bible in Pictures for Little Eyes”. It is written by Ken Taylor, father of 10. It is from Moody Press. It has short lessons, Bible verses, and questions that develop a child’s listening and comprehension skills.

  6. I am like you in that I LOVE LOVE LOVE BOOOOOOOOKSSSS! Simply l o v e πŸ™‚ them. I get free Christian books for Kindle and some for Nooks from http://www.inspiredreads.com and http://www.davidccook.com. The books given away by inspired reads are both Christian fiction for children, adults, and some nonfiction too.
Anyhow, just wanted to share that with a fellow book lover πŸ™‚ You may even already know about both, but I discovered them just in the past month. πŸ™‚

  8. What a great list you’ve compiled here. I noticed one by Nancy Moser, Just Jane, and wanted to also suggest How Do I Love Thee? It’s the only one I’ve read by her so far and with Elizabeth Barrett Browning my absolute favorite poet ever, I thought it very well done.
I am going to look again at your list and even book mark it! Thanks.

  9. Best classic read aloud book series for families is LITTLE BRITCHES by Ralph Moody. It is Little House on steroids! Great for boys and girls and parents. 7 books in series. Most libraries have or you can order on loan. Amazon has for sale. Getting ready to start it again for the 3rd time as I have lots of kids and the little ones are getting bigger and haven’t heard it.

Thoughts? Feel free to share.
