The Homeschooling Gestapo

“So how was school today?”

When I am asked that question the wheels begin to spin and I think to myself, How do I answer this? Are they going to criticize me for our decision to homeschool? Is this one of those “super” homeschool moms who is going to be shocked when I say we didn’t start school until 10:00am? Is this person trying to one up me and see how the competition is going? Is this person going to turn her nose up at me because I don’t cook organic food? 

Then the doubts begin to fog my mind…I’m ruining my kids. They will never be able to get a job. They won’t be able to function with others…

And I buy into the lies of the Homeschooling Gestapo.

Yes, we have to turn in our paper work to the local homeschool association, but we do not need to worry about someone looking over our shoulders every minute of the day to make sure we are “doing it right.” Deuteronomy 6 tells us what to do as parents. And if we are true to scripture, then that is what matters.

What is your goal for your Homeschool? I’ll tell you what mine is. And there is nothing noble about my goal. It’s just where God has led me and I want so much to be in the middle of His will for our homeschool.

My Homeschooling goal is this: I want my kids to know Who God is and then hopefully decide to serve Jesus in His kingdom. I want to see my kids SAVED and SERVING.

My goal doesn’t include math and science, although we learn those objectives.
My goal doesn’t include college, although I think that would be wonderful.

We Homeschooling Moms have got to come to the point where we decide to serve God and not Man. It doesn’t matter what other moms and dads think about us and our homeschool. It doesn’t matter what school philosophy you choose.

It does matter if you are being obedient to what God wants for you and your family.

So check your homeschool goal. I reevaluate my goal and priorities all the time. Make sure your priorities are working towards that goal.

And tell the Homeschooling Gestapo to take a hike!
