I had a yard sale today. It went well. The kids even made a few dollars running a lemonade stand. I wanted to take just a minute to share “The Story of the Day” with you all.
I had all kinds of things on 5 long tables. It was a good yard sale! LOTS of kids’ clothes and items. And I had a stack of about 6 baby blankets collected over the years from my two wonderful children.
A lady customer walked up and was looking around. She saw the blankets and asked me how much I wanted for them. “$1.00 a blanket,” I replied, thinking that was a reasonable price for these really cute, soft blankets.
She responded back with, “I’d like to buy many of them. Would you take 50 cents for each? I give them to my dogs.”
She wanted my cute, snuggly baby blankets that I used for my precious children…for her DOGS.
I’m all for having pets. I have friends who treat their dogs better than people. And that’s fine, but don’t tell a Mama her little blankets of cuteness are going to be used to wrap up slobbery dogs.
One slobber does not equal another.
Have a great weekend!
In order to have a Christ-focused home, a Christ-focused homeschool, or even a Christ-focused family, you have to be sure of one thing…
That the parent(s) are Christ-focused.
There are plenty of “parent-help” books out there. It’s a HUGE industry! And every “Expert” has his own way of doing things. Some advice is right on the money, others not so much. But all of those books, video series, and conferences are produced by fallible people. I am SO grateful I serve a God who cares about His own and gives them directions on how to do the hard things. We are not doing this parenting job alone. We just have to be willing to sit down and study the scriptures to know what those directions are.
It was called the “Hair and Lips Center.” I was invited by two short people to have my hair and lips “done.” All of the supplies were spread out over the footstool and a small chair was in front for me to sit in. I had a nice pile of Little Critter books to read while “Andi and Joe” were working on my hair.
I had two colors of sparkle lip gloss put on; a comb stuck on the side of my head and hair bows all over. Continue reading
“What is truth?” sneered Pilate to Jesus.
Earlier in His ministry Jesus had said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father but through Me.”
Jesus didn’t answer the Roman governor. He didn’t need to. And even though Pilate washed His hands of innocent blood, I think he knew the answer to his question.
But do you know the Truth? Do our kids know the Truth? Do my kids have a solid rock foundation of Biblical Truth so that their Awana and Sunday School classes can build onto that knowledge and help them grow spiritually?
It is our job as parents to make sure that our kids have the Bible training that they need in order for God to grow them as disciples. We can’t get our kids saved. We can’t make their choices for them. But we can teach them the Truth to the best of our abilities and trust the Holy Spirit to do the rest. Continue reading
I was invited to a baby shower today. I don’t know about you, but when I’m invited to events, I try very hard to make sure I can go. This was no different. I received the invitation around 9:45 this morning and the baby shower was to take place….um, then.
In the living room.
My living room.
There was a mound of “gifts” in the middle of the room.
The Little Mama sat on the couch and RB sat next to her. I was to be the camera person and sit on the chair opposite the present opening.
The kids and I have learned so much about birds during our Bird Unit. I think the neatest thing has been watching the bird feeder which is about 2 feet from our kitchen table. We eat breakfast with the birds. The past 2 mornings a red bellied woodpecker has decided to join us. THAT has been amazing!!
The kids and I made birdseed cookies and placed them out in the front yard for our feathered friends. I noticed today that the front yard has been FULL of tiny little hopping sparrows, doves, robins, and other little feathery signs of spring. Continue reading
While I know you want so much to do what you want to do with no repercussions, I’m afraid such behavior will not happen under my watch.
There will be no throwing of legos under any circumstances; and throwing the ball over and over again at the bedroom door, while loud and exciting, is not being a good steward of the blessing of having your own bedroom.
It does not matter how much toothpaste you have on your toothbrush or where exactly it is placed on the toothbrush. And there is no need to fall on the floor in anguish when such a thing happens not to your liking. Continue reading
The house was silent.
The toys have been put away. The leftover food stashed in the fridge. A soccer ball placed in the garage and the doll stroller parked in the closet.
The house was still.
And I smiled.
RB and Sweet Cheeks were in the living room sleeping on the couches in their new sleeping bags. My husband was breathing sleepy breaths as I snuggled against him.
And I smiled.
Laughter, smiles, happy eyes, hugs, kind words, colored paper, shiny bling, oo-s and ah-s, family seen, friends texted…
And I smiled.
This year has been filled with blessings, coupled with trials and grief. All along the way there has been One encouraging me to persevere and stay focused on the prize.
Mary, was this what it was like when you treasured all those things in your heart?
Lord, thank you for the treasures of 2012. And I, with trusting anticipation, place the days of 2013 into the palms of Your loving hands.
