I love science. I also love math. Why? Because I’m a nerd? Well, possibly, but mainly because God uses them to show how awesome He is! My God is a God of order and pattern. He is not chaotic. He is meticulous. He is creative. Everything in the world, above and below, sings His praises! And how much louder WE should sing to Him because He sent Jesus to save our souls from eternal separation from Himself.
Oh, my God is SO good! And He loves me. Not because I have done anything to deserve it, but because He just does.
I wanted to share these videos with you. There are three in the series. They were produced by a mathematics instructor at Khan Academy. I, of course, do not know what her relationship with the Lord is because she doesn’t say if she is a Christian. (I don’t think she is.) In fact, I think she tries to imply that this complex series of patterns evolved from simple beginnings. However, the words she speaks describe the great mystery of God and how He uses simplicity the confound those who are “wise in their own eyes.” I love her quote: Simple rules, Complex consequences. Isn’t that how our God works? Think about it.
In these videos, the instructor shows mathematically how to create perfect spirals and then shows the viewer where these spirals are found in plants. She then introduces the Fibonacci series and explains how plants use the pattern to survive.
I found these fascinating.
I will warn you…she talks really fast. So be sure to keep up.
I hope you enjoyed them!
Hopefully the next time you take a walk and see a pine cone you will praise the Lord for how miraculously He made it!
I enjoy a lot ofthe stuff at Khan too. I honestly have no idea how someone could study math and sciencs and not encounter God…I have always thought of Faith and Science as the flip side of the same coin.
Our God is a God of order……………..and Surprises!
Absolutely!
I am completely in AWE. I do not do well with math, I believe, due to my very right-brained self, that a piece of paper with numbers is just black lines on white background. It took me FOREVER to learn Pre-Algebra, but – if you give me a visual picture I can totally understand. These videos are great. I love to learn, and am such a nerd, but I am truely awestruck at how this person doing the video misses the fact that math came from nature….how else does she think it came about? And nature came from God – so….I am just in AWE.
Isn’t it amazing????? Well, I guess it’s more…isn’t HE amazing??????
